Old newspapers offer an interesting perspective about how things have changed in our world.
These newspaper pages are large scans, and depending on your technology, you may be able to enlarge and read them when you click on the photo. After the photo fully loads, click on the photo to magnify the image. Some of you will be able to read every word, others won't. These newspaper pages are extremely large files and they take time to load. Be patient.
In 1770, they used what looks like lower case f's for s's and that certainly is a remarkable change in the written word from then to now. They advertised such things as whale oil and imported mulberry trees and cambleteens for sale, and there were want ads for such things as wet nurses in the Boston paper. "Public Vendue" is an old term for auction sale.
Also, there is the auction page and a real estate page from the Peoria Journal Star in 1957 for your review. Notably, in just the last 50 years, the Journal Star has gone from two full pages of classified real estate ads in the daily editions to hardly any real estate for sale listed daily now. You will see numerous listings saying "modern", meaning indoor toilet... so, a lot has changed in the last 50 years, indeed.
